Our Time in the Northeast....(you know Raleigh, NC)

Of all the towns we've lived in Raleigh was one of my favorites. It was like a version of my beloved hometown, Greenville that I didn't know quite so well. We lived dangerously close to a Whole Foods and had a DVR for the first time while we were here, so it's safe to say WE WERE LIVIN' LARGE.

When we weren't stuffing our faces from the Hot Bar or watching How I Met Your Mother recordings you could probably find us taking advantage of these capitol city highlights:

We bought a Groupon for a brewery tour here in the height of the Groupon craze - boy am I glad we did! This little brew pub and restaurant boasts a laid back vibe, ample outdoor seating with a great view of downtown Raleigh and amazing french fries served in a trendy metal goblet.

Thanks to our obsession with this place, we are now the proud owners of our own brewing system and may have looked into attending the World Brewing Academy in Chicago. (Yes - this is a real thing. Check it out here.)

To me the best donuts are cake donuts... (Don't tell our next city which is the home of the Krispy Kreme headquarters). This was our go-to Saturday morning #treatyoself spot. The Dutch Crumb donut was my personal favorite and combined the best of coffee cake into a convenient circle shaped treat.

We lived less than a mile from the RBC Center and were given tickets to a game. It was my first professional hockey game (other than the Greenville Growl) but it will not be my last. The game was fun to watch, fast and loud - plus the cheesy entertainment was well worth a visit even if you aren't a hockey fan.

Located on the second floor of an older building on Hillsbourgh Street across the street from NC State, The Alley is like a bowling time machine. As long as you can keep your own score or don't care who's winning - you can't beat this throw back bowling alley. They even serve old favorites like fried bologna and cheese sandwiches.

So while not technically in Raleigh - The Durham Performing Arts Center was somewhere I was lucky enough to work and definitely a must see when you are in the RTP area. There's always a great show going on at DPAC - broadway, comedy, music and more!

Other Raleigh favorites...
  • Raleigh Times Bar - First come, first serve seating and some of the most delicious fries ever. This bar is downtown and inhabit the previous Raleigh Times Newspaper building.
  • nOg Jog Run Club - This is my "shoulda coulda woulda" pick for this city. Although we never participated, the nOg Jog Run Club gathers runners and beer drinkers to do both habits at once! After a quick jog around Raleigh, everyone gathers for a pint at the Irish Pub, Tir na nog for some fun!
  • The Pit - You've read about this place for a reason... it's delicious. Enjoy!
  • Lilly's Pizza - This is in the five points area in Raleigh, I know what you're thinking Columbians.... another five points? Apparently they are in lots of cities. Lilly's Pizza was somewhere we heard about over and over when we moved to Raleigh for good reason. It is so good and worthy of the hype.
There are so many more places to mention but for the sake of actually posting this, I'm going to stop there. Share your capitol city favorites below!
