Head and the Heart
When I was little, I used to help my mom volunteer at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. We would wake up early and pick up truck loads of bananas, bagels and muffins to deliver to smiling volunteers drinking coffee in white tents before the sun came up. I loved every second of it.
I liked the small things like getting a special shirt, free doughnuts and coffee and also the big things like feeling necessary and motivated by a bigger goal.
I don't remember where or when I asked my mom about how she chose where to give her time but I do remember her answer. She encouraged me to dedicate myself to one or two causes and give them my all.
I remember thinking how impossible it would be to pick just one or two. However over the last couple of years diagnoses, injuries and events have made 'my causes' all center around the brain.
In a few weeks, I will be walking in support of one of these causes, in memory of my Grandmother, in honor of my Aunt Pat and most of all to End Alzheimers.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
- Margaret Mead
It was on the back of our Student Council celebration t-shirt after winning Spirit Week my freshman year. I still whole heartedly believe this and hope that you will join a "...group of thoughtful, committed citizens..." that care about the same cause you do and change the world.
